--- title: What happens at an Open Day? last_updated: 2026-07-15T16:13:49Z --- # What happens at an Open Day? Our monthly Open Days are the best time to come check out the space for the first time! A volunteer will show you around the space concentrating on the types of tools you're interested in and give you some insight into how we operate. If you're in the space around 12:30pm chances are we'll also have a free sausage sizzle running. :::collapse We recognise that for some of our first time attendees things can be a bit overwhelming! Click here for a breakdown that is largely only going to be of interest to those that prefer to have a more specific idea of what goes on. * When you arrive head through the white door on the left instead of through the roller door. This will take you into our foyer. * Head on through the doorway on the right into the general workshop - Yes there's a lot of things! * From here you'll see a checkered square on the floor - hang around near there and a volunteer will come say hi. If it's been more than a 2-3 minutes flag down the closest person you see and let them know you're here for the open day. * The volunteer will ask you what sort of things you're interested in - At this stage we're looking for a broad answer of something like "woodworking", "3D printing" etc. We just need enough info to know which tour guide will be best suited to answer your questions. It's also okay to say that you're interested in everything. * Once we know what you'd like to do in the space the volunteer will take you to one of our tour guides and attach you to their tour. These tours loop back on themselves so once you've looked at the same tool twice you've seen everything! * It's okay to ask questions about what specific tools do during the tour. If you give a **brief** description of your project the tour guide will likely be able to give you a general idea of whether your project is possible in the space. * If you have questions about the organisation, tool questions that the guide couldn't answer, or have a question related to a few specific topics you'll be directed to one of our more experienced volunteers at the end of the tour who will be able to answer all of your questions. * Now that the tour is complete and your questions have been answered you're welcome to have a look around the space by yourself! It's a very different experience by yourself instead of with a tour guide. We ask that you do not turn on any tools and do not go through any member storage spaces/lockers. Your guide will have pointed out these areas during the tour.
